Paul von Spaun was born in Germany in 1876. He was a pupil of the German painter Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach, of whom he married his daughter Stella and devoted himself mainly to painting landscapes and seascapes, a genre that gave him a notable fame.

The artist had learned from his teacher an extremely refined color rendition, so much so that in his works the many shades and atmospheric yields occupy a primary role. The painting presented here depicts the view of the Faraglioni of Capri, with the three famous rock peaks in the background rising from the sea a few meters from the coast.

In the foreground, instead, the impetuous sea rushes against the shore. Von Spaun has lived for several years in Capri in the house he bought with his wife Stella, and on this island he created some of the most beautiful seascapes in that period.

The View of the Faraglioni in Capri is characterized by a precise observation of the nature made with an evocative use of light and color. In Capri, the artist had many admirers and received a well-deserved reputation.
