TRUE TO NATURE

move to The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge

TRUE TO NATURE. Open-air painting in Europe 1780-1870

moves to THE FITZWILLIAM MUSEUM, Cambridge.

3 May - 29 August, 2022

Four paintings once from our collection are shown in the exhibition.

Previously at the Fondation Custodia in Paris, now at The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, this unique exhibition explore the ways in which 18th and 19th century artists recorded fleeting moments in nature, capturing the effects of light, drama and atmosphere firsthand in the open-air. The exhibition brings together over one hundred and fifty oil studies from the collections of the Fondation Custodia in Paris, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and a private collector.

In the past appointment at the Fondation Custodia in Paris, in addition to these four Clouds Studies, a fifth painting was also exhibited, also once from our collection. A landscape by Giovanni Battista Camuccini, Scorcio del lago di Albano dalla via di Palazzolo, c. 1840, now in a private collection, Paris.
